Stogie Night on November 30th, 2008 was held at the famed Stanzi Di Sigari on Hanover Street in the North End of Boston. This is the standby venue for the Stogie Night Crew, especially in the cooler months. This night was to be noteworthy for the regular attendees of Stogie Night because the City of Boston was on the cusp of passing a by-law that would eliminate the last bastions of smoking freedom: “The Cigar Bar”.

With only three or four cigar bars left in the area, now facing final elimination, this was to be the last puff in our favorite former “speak-easy”. The men enjoyed the typical great service as always, which served up a bevy of top-shelf cocktails and single-malt scotches. The cigars, the true focal point of our Band Of Merry Men, were of only the best quality. Stogie Night members exchanged different brands, tried new and intriguing tobacco blends, and shared cigar sources, as we sipped, puffed, and chatted through the fragrant wafting smoke. We ended the night with a toast and a round of handshakes.

Having heard the old adage that time heals all wounds, the relieved Stogie Night crew got word a couple of days after the event, that the great city of Boston had given the Cigar Bars a ten year reprieve on the smoking ban, thereby staying the execution of Stanzi Di Sigari. That being said, Stogie Night lives to smoke another day, enjoying the freedom of a fine cigar with friends for at least another decade. We hope to see you at the next event in early February 2009.
